Construction values in building permits issued in Sault Ste. Marie plummeted during the first six months of this year compared to 2008.
The City of Sault Ste. Marie recorded $26.6 million in accumulated construction values compared to the $65.8 million during the first six months last year.
In June alone, building permit values were $8 million compared to $17.9 million in June 2008.
Residential construction is down from $21.7 million last year to $10.7 million this year.
Commercial, industrial and institutional construction dropped down to $15 million from last year's $44 million.
Nine new home permits with a value of $2 million were issued in June compared to 16 permits worth $3.7 million last year. Home renovations are up to $1.56 million from $1.4 million recorded during the same period last year.
No permits were issued for new commercial, industrial or institutional construction in June.
