The provincial government has launched a new map and directory to help consumers find local food sources in their area.
Launched this spring, the Finding Local map is available on the Foodland Ontario website, where users can search by location, business, or the product they're looking to find.
Farmers markets, grocery stores and more than 400 food businesses that partner with Foodland Ontario are featured on the site.
Each entry includes the name and contact information of the organization, its location, and its website. New entries are being added regularly.
The project was launched in advance of Local Food Week, held Jun 2-8, during which the province recognizes farmers, food processors, distributors, retailers and restaurateurs across Ontario.
According to government numbers, there are 871,000 jobs in the agriculture and agri-food sectors, which generate close to $51 billion annually.
