Workers safe after seismic event at Creighton Mine

No injuries were reported and all employees were accounted for following a seismic event at Creighton Mine in Sudbury on Sunday night. Residents in the area reported feeling a rumble occur around 9:40 p.m.

Residents in the area reported feeling a rumble occur around 9:40 p.m. and Vale confirmed a seismic event occurred about 500 feet from the inner workings of the mine at around the 7,200-foot level.

“In consultation with the Geological Society of Canada in Ottawa, the magnitude of the seismic event was 3.3 Mn followed by three aftershocks measuring 2.1 Mn, 1.5 Mn, and 1.0 Mn respectively,” reported a statement from Vale.

There was no damage to the mine or equipment as a result of the event.
