Wood award winners honoured

Some Northern Ontario projects were honoured recently at the 11th annual Wood WORKS! awards celebration. The awards recognize people and organizations that, through design excellence and innovation, are advancing the use of wood in construction.

The awards recognize people and organizations that, through design excellence and innovation, are advancing the use of wood in construction.

Included in the award winners were: Hearst Mayor Roger Sigouin, for wood champion; Nelson Architecture of Kenora for architect wood advocate award; Sioux Lookout Meno-Ya-Win Health Centre (architect – Stantec Architecture Ltd., engineer – Neegan Burnside Ltd.) for Northern Ontario Excellence Award; Lake of the Woods Discovery Centre in Kenora (architect – Nelson Architecture, engineer – Lavergne, Draward and Associates) for Instututional wood design; MTO patrol yard in Sundridge (architect and engineer – URS Architects and Engineers Canada) for commercial wood design.

Working with the design community, Wood WORKS! connects practitioners with resources related to the use of wood in commercial, industrial and institutional construction, assists in product sourcing, and delivers educational seminars and training opportunities.
