Students interested in developing a career in the skilled trades will attend a Skills Canada-Ontario networking event Nov. 27 in Cutler, just west of Sudbury.
The event will feature 11 local female mentors working in heavy equipment operation, hairstyling, esthetics, AZ driving, pipe fitting, hospitality, photography, fur grooming/floral design and electrical. They will be mentoring 39 female students attending from the Sudbury Friendship Centre, Elliot Lake Adult Education, Waawaasnoode Learning Centre in Sagamok, and White River First Nation Adult Education.
Skills Canada-Ontario is a not-for profit organization dedicated to promoting careers in the skilled trades and technologies to young Ontarians through a variety of interactive programs, competitions and events.
Statistics show that women account for less than three per cent of the major trade groups in Canada. The networking event is designed to teach and inspire women who have chosen career paths in the skilled trades.
