The coming of fall means increased grain shipments through elevators on the western Great Lakes.
The Thunder Bay Port Authority recorded more than 4.6 million tonnes of grain through the port for the year up until the end of October. That's up from the more than 3.8 million tonnes moved during the same period last year.
Dry bulk cargoes for the year were recorded at 106,837 tonnes, compared to 39,949 tonnes in 2010. General cargo through Keefer Terminal was up slightly for 2011 at 9,741 tonnes, up from 8,982 tonnes recorded during the same period last year.
Shipments of coal, potash and liquid bulk were off last year's pace.
Vessel traffic was up with 44 ships in the port last month, compared to 34 last year.
