Born and raised in Oba, Watson was a fighter pilot in the Second World War, flew 90 missions with the Royal Canadian Air Force and was shot down three times over Europe.

He held his commercial pilot's licence until he was 72.

His daughter, Betty McGie, has run the business in recent years.
