A two-day conference focusing on looking at opportunities in value-added forestry, local market agriculture and bioeconomy will be held at Northern College's Porcupine Campus in Timmins on March 5-6.
Hosted by the Lake Abitibi Model Forest, the event is called Paving the Way II: Stabilizing Local Resource-Based Boom and Bust Economies in Northeastern Ontario, and follows up on a similar event held in 2009.
The scope of the discussion will also include rural communities along the Highway 11 corridor.
The event's keynote speaker will be McMaster University's Dr. Atif Kurbursi, who will discuss how to keep money in the North and how to determine the extent of how much is flowing out of the region.
