Six Matawa First Nations Chiefs signed a memorandum of understanding with Great Slave Helicopters Ltd., Feb. 12 for a joint venture to provide helicopter air charter services to customers within their traditional territories.
Great Slave Helicopters will act as the operator of the business while the Matawa First Nations will be responsible for marketing the helicopter services to prospective clients. Great Slave Helicopters is headquartered in the Northwest Territories and is one of Canada's largest helicopter companies.
“Great Slave Helicopters has enjoyed mutually beneficial partnerships with several other First Nations over the past 20 years and this latest agreement brings forward many exciting benefits for all parties including profit sharing, apprenticeship programs, pilot training opportunities, educational workshops and youth scholarships," said new business development manager Anthony Margarit in a statement.
“We are optimistic about the potential of this partnership with Great Slave Helicopters, particularly considering the growing number of economic activities in our traditional territories. By providing helicopter services to the individuals and companies who want to enter our lands, our First Nations can begin to benefit and generate revenue from their presence," said Chief Roy Moonias of Neskantaga First Nation.
