In its new corporate strategic plan, the City of Sault Ste. Marie has cited its transportation strategy as a priority, through which it will take the lead as a transportation hub for Northern Ontario.
The city indicates it will make improvements in the areas of rail, harbour and air between 2011 and 2014, with an update to the transportation master plan, which will facilitate capital forecasting, in 2012.
That year will also see the review of the city's industrial land strategy “to ensure adequate supply for future development.”
Other highlights of the strategic plan include a focus on succession planning, which is currently underway, and a review of immigration partnership plans, which seeks to engage the community to “develop a range of immigration services to attract and retain new immigrants.”
A number of infrastructure projects are also planned for the city, including the continued implementation of the bio-solids management study to reduce waste, and the rehabilitation of the city's aqueducts and channels to improve stormwater management and extend the life of flood control facilities.
