The Ontario chapter of the Canadian Land Reclamation Association (CLRA) is offering a $5,000 student award for graduate students enrolled in a Canadian university who are conducting Ontario-based reclamation research.
The research must be related to any aspect of the mining cycle from advanced exploration to long-term monitoring. The applicant must be willing to present their research findings at the Ontario CLRA/Ontario Mining Association Mine Reclamation Symposium.
The Tom Peters Memorial Mine Reclamation Award was established in recognition of Tom Peters, a pioneer in the use of agricultural practices for regreening mine tailings. He was also a founding member of the CLRA, established in 1975. An annual industry award is also given in co-operation of the CLRA, Ontario Mining Association and the Ontario Mininstry of Northern Development, Mines and Forestry and Vale to recognize outstanding achievement in the practice of mine reclamation in Ontario.
The application deadline for the student award is April 15, 2011. For more information, visit the website www.clra.ca/chapters.html under Ontario Chapter.
