Timmins mine rescue team uses home field advantage

The team won the 60th annual competition staged by Workplace Safety North and Ontario Mine Rescue in Timmins, June 11 and 12.

Rescue team members are volunteer mine workers trained by professional consultants to respond to all types of mine emergencies, including fires, explosions and falls.

Other competing teams represented Sifto Canada, Compass Minerals, Goldcorp's Musselwhite Mine, Barrick Gold's Hemlo operations, Xstrata Nickel in Sudbury and Kirkland Lake Gold's Macassa Mine.

This year's competition was co-hosted by Xstrata Copper, Goldcorp Canada and Lake Shore Gold.

Ontario Mine Rescue is part of Workplace Safety North, which provides products and services to promote workplace health and safety in mining, forestry and pulp and paper industries.
