Timmins gold digger amps up the ounces

Brigus Gold announced an 80 per cent quarterly increase in gold production at its Black Fox Mine, east of Timmins.

Brigus Gold announced an 80 per cent quarterly increase in gold production at its Black Fox Mine, east of Timmins.

In its second quarter statement, the miner said Black Fox produced 15,688 ounces of gold, but the production ramp up has been slower than expected. The company said it's been a tight labour market in trying to build up its work force and slow recruiting has delayed underground development.

Black Fox is located in the township of Black River-Matheson.

The company expects to finish its mill expansion by the first quarter of next year which will boost processing capacity to 2,200 tonnes per day.

“Production continues to ramp up,” said COO Rick Allan in a July 20 statement. “Underground development is still in the early stages. As additional stopes are opened this quarter, gold production will continue to increase.”
