Enhanced infrastructure and sports facilities are a priority for chamber members, according to a survey conducted by its Municipal Vision Task Force.
The survey, completed by 91 members, focused on the future of the city to help guide its advocacy efforts for growth and development strategies.
The survey included 10 questions, including two which were open-ended and addressed the issues of municipal diversification, business retention and attraction.
The respondents (46 per cent) felt city council should give its highest priority to civil infrastructure, followed by core services review (26 per cent) and a recreation plan (17 per cent).
Almost half indicated that upgraded and new sports, recreational and leisure facilities would make the city a more attractive community to businesses and professionals looking to relocate. When asked where council should invest more time, resources and funding to make the city more prosperous, community planning and roads and infrastructure topped the list.
Close to 70 per cent of the respondents indicated biking trails as the healthy-lifestyle option the city should dedicate resources to followed by outdoor rinks (20 per cent) and a community centre.
In the next 10 years, the survey indicated Timmins should be a city known for quality of life (49 per cent), followed by research, innovation and education (28 per cent).
Better roads is considered the additional infrastructure required to satisfy current and future business needs (34 per cent) followed by land servicing (sewer, water, etc.) and enhanced communication infrastructure (26 per cent).
