Grain cargoes through the Port of Thunder Bay continue to increase this shipping season.
The port authority released its cargo statistics for September, which recorded grain movements through the Lake Superior port at 594,910 tonnes, up from 371,812 tonnes recorded during the same period last year.
So far this year, more than 3.9 million tonnes of grain has moved through Thunder Bay's grain elevators, up from last year's pace of almost 3.4 million tonnes.
Potash cargoes for the month totalled 39,979 tonnes, up dramatically from the 19,719 tonnes posted last year.
The overall movement of coal, grain, potash and liquid bulk cargoes (as of Sept. 30) is listed at 732,798 tonnes, better than the 2010 totals of 541,297 tonnes.
