Thunder Bay architect Ahsanul Habib has received the 2009 Recognition Award from the Ontario Heritage Trust, an agency of the Ontario government.
He is principal of Habib Architects Inc. and Habib Enterprises.
He receives a Certificate of Achievement and a pin honouring his service.
The trust has been asking municipalities, First Nation band councils and Metis community groups to nominate local individuals who have made a significant contribution to the promotion, preservation and protection of Ontario's heritage.
Individuals have been recognized for leadership of natural heritage conservation, production of local history publications and participation in the preservation of heritage buildings.
Habib is being recognized for his efforts in preserving local heritage buildings including the facade of a former bank on Victoria Avenue after fire destroyed the building.
He is Thunder Bay's first and only recipient since the program was initiated in 1996.
