Thunder Bay International Authority recorded a monthly passenger traffic record in August.

With 67,092 passengers in August, up 1.7 per cent from the same month last year, the airport hosted more passengers that month than at any other time in its history.

Scott McFadden, airport president and CEO, attributes that number to air carriers such as Bearskin Airlines and Wasaya Airways introducing larger aircraft. Air Canada and Porter Airlines have also stepped up capacity between the city and Toronto.

“Added capacity and increased competition has yielded better options and prices for travellers,” said McFadden in a press release. He expects the airport to surpass 700,000 passengers for the first time in 2011.
