A number of Northern Ontario companies and operators were recognized for being among the best in their field nationally. In Sault Ste. Marie, the Quality Inn and Suites Bay Front received a Choice Hotel Canada APEX Award for 2011.

A number of Northern Ontario companies and operators were recognized for being among the best in their field nationally.

In Sault Ste. Marie, the Quality Inn and Suites Bay Front received a Choice Hotel Canada APEX Award for 2011. The award, entitled 'Most Improved Likelihood to Recommend' is based on results from post-stay guest surveys.

The Sault property won the award after achieving the most improved levels of guest satisfaction among more than 120 hotels.

For the fifth year, Cementation Canada is one of Canada's Top 100 Employers.

The North Bay mine builders received high marks for its training and development, community involvement, health and family benefits, financial benefits and compensation.

“Since starting this company in 1998, we have focused on being an employer of choice in our industry,” said Cementation president Roy Slack in an Oct. 14 statement. “It is part of our mission statement and our corporate culture.”

The annual competition is managed by Mediacorp Canada and the winners are announced in the Globe and Mail.

In Sudbury, Bestech announced was in the running for the Desjardins Sustainable Development Award given to businesses with socially responsible managers, run financially sound operations, and are deemed outstanding community contributors. The engineering and automation firm was among 35 finalists who attended the Oct. 12 gala in Quebec City. “Bestech is definitely on the right track if we are making the cut for such an esteemed award,” said Andre Dumas, Bestech's manager of corporate services.
