The City of Temiskaming Shores has announced its entry into the green energy business with a partnership with Kitchener-based Canadian Solar Solutions Inc. to build 30 megawatts-worth of solar projects, totalling $150 million.
An additional three projects totalling another 30 megawatts, complete with another $150-million price tag, is also in the works, pending economic connection testing.
The deal carries with it a "community benefits package," which will include the development of rooftop solar projects for municipal and commercial buildings in the area.
These projects are being targeted for a minimum 25-year life, providing $3-million in related land lease payments to the municipality.
Construction on the first three projects is expected to begin in the coming months.
