The City of Temiskaming Shores has secured a $1.2 million loan through the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) to improve water services in the region.
The money will be used to build a new drinking water reservoir for Haileybury residents, which is being designed to eliminate water leaks. The loan will also be used to build a new sanitary sewer lift station in New Liskeard's wastewater collection system to improve the community water source.
The projects received funding through the CMHC's Municipal Infrastructure Lending Program. Projects considered to be eligible for the program include infrastructure work related to housing services, such as water, power generation and waste services. It also includes local transportation infrastructure within and leading into residential areas such as roads, sidewalks, lighting and green space.
