Three Sudbury companies developing cutting-edge technologies have received grants from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation (NOHFC).
The money, worth $196,403 in total, comes from the Emerging Technology Program, which supports companies in the public and private sectors in developing viable new technologies that will contribute to the future prosperity of Northern Ontario.
HLS Hard-Line Solutions received $92,162 for the development and construction of an improved prototype machine to repair and renew existing Douglas fir mine shaft guides.
Four Leaf Solutions Inc. received $57,241 toward the development of a real-time location tracking tool for underground miners.
Mycovar Biotechnology Corporation, a new company, received $47,000 to develop its first product, the Target-TB, a new diagnostic tool for tuberculosis.
Sudbury MPP Rick Bartolucci said in a news release the investments would “enhance Sudbury's reputation as a centre of research in both mining and health care.”
"Fostering a strong research and development sector is key to supporting growth in our area,” concluded Bartolucci. “Today’s NOHFC funding demonstrates our government’s commitment to building the North to prosper."
