Sudbury hosting future geoscientists

The next generation of geoscientists are converging in Sudbury over the next two weeks to learn about the exploration industry.

The next generation of geoscientists are converging in Sudbury over the next two weeks to learn about the exploration industry.

The 26 students have been handpicked from their respective faculties in universities and colleges from across Canada to attend an all-expenses-paid student-industry mineral exploration workshop organized by the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC). This is the fifth year the workshop has been offered.

Over the course of the two weeks, industry experts will be introducing the students to a wide range of topics, including geochemistry and geophysics, mineral economics, corporate social responsibility and Aboriginal participation in mineral exploration. They will also have an opportunity to tour mines in northern Ontario and Quebec.

"The event is designed to attract students into the mineral exploration industry and to give them a practical and business perspective of mineral exploration not generally available in the classroom,” said Scott Jobin-Bevans, PDAC president and co-founder of the workshop in a press release. “This country is a world leader in mineral exploration. If we are to retain this predominant position, we must do everything we can to encourage highly qualified young people to enter the industry. The students attending this workshop are our future leaders."
