The City of Greater Sudbury has received FedNor funding that will allow the city to hire a youth intern to work as a junior business officer.

Thanks to the grant, worth $27,500, the junior business officer will co-ordinate and implement a series of activities designed to educate young people and young professionals in the area of entrepreneurship.

“The City of Greater Sudbury is proud to partner with FedNor to help encourage young adults to pursue their dreams and consider self-employment as a viable career option,” Mayor Marianne Matichuk said in a news release. “Small businesses are a cornerstone of our local economy and this initiative will provide area youth with access to the resources they need to start their own businesses and build for the future.”

The funding announcement was made in conjunction with Small Business Week, which is observed from Oct. 16-22, and aims to celebrate the contributions and achievements of entrepreneurs across the country.
