Sudbury is forming a Sport Tourism Advisory Panel to go after more sport tourism and boost economic development in the city.
Calling sport tourism the “fastest growing section” of the industry, Mayor Marianne Matichuk said Sudbury’s past success in hosting local, provincial and national sporting events proves it has a good shot at developing this sector.
“Enhancing the Sport Tourism industry in Greater Sudbury provides us the opportunity to showcase our community and build awareness of our competitive sport infrastructure, trained expertise and unique northern setting,” she said in a news release. “It also provides the occasion to highlight local talent among athletes, coaches, volunteers and citizens committed to fostering a healthy community.”
The advisory panel will focus on the business of sport tourism, maximizing the economic impacts of hosting events and will include representation from various community stakeholders.
