The City of Greater Sudbury has earned accolades for Reclaiming Our Urban Places, a brownfield strategy and community improvement plan designed to find new uses for vacant commercial properties.
Recognized by the Canadian Urban Institute, the city was named a finalist for a Brownie Award in the Legislation, Policy and Program Development category. The institute hosted its annual Canadian Brownfields conference and gala in Niagara Falls last week.
“I’m proud of the dedicated and committed team behind this project,” said Bill Lautenbach, the city’s general manager of growth and development. “To have this strategy recognized at a national level and judged by peer experts in the industry shows our ideas are among the best in the country.”
Brownie Awards recognize winners in seven categories from across Canada for their leadership, innovation and commitment to building sustainable communities.
