A trio of Sudbury companies has received a total of $73,940 from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corp. to jumpstart their business ventures.

The funding comes under the NOHFC's Northern Ontario Entrepreneur Program, which is designed to help residents of Northern Ontario who plan to start their own for-profit business in the North, with the idea that they will boost the economy and foster long-term job creation.

Successful applicants include Soleil Power Canada Inc., based out of Worthington, which received $33,675 to design and install solar power system for residential and commercial properties; Smokin Jeff's BBQ House in Hanmer, which received $30,770 to set up a new family restaurant that specializes in smoked meats; and Altered Spaces, which received $9,495 to set up a full-service construction company that will focus on new construction, renovations, and repairs of residential properties, specializing in cottages and summer homes.

"The vast majority of the Ontario economy consists of small and medium businesses," Sudbury MPP Rick Bartolucci said in a news release. "Investing in these local entrepreneurs creates jobs and diversifies our economy."
