Slippery floor + broken arm = $55,000

Algoma Tubes has been fined $55,000 after a worker was injured in 2008 at its Sault Ste. Marie seamless tube plant. A May 2 Ministry of Labour release said a worker suffered a broken arm after slipping on a wet surface at the facility, Dec. 17, 2008.

The company pleaded guilty for failing to ensure that the floor was kept free of hazards. Justice of the Peace James Bubba imposed the fine for the violation under the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
