The construction of a new digital dome theatre is almost complete at Science North.
The theatre will feature a large dome-shaped projection screen to accommodate digital planetarium shows. The digital projector will simulate celestial phenomena such as eclipses, constellations and meteor showers, and viewers will see actual images of more than 100 deep space objects.
The Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation is providing $594,500 to this project under its Infrastructure and Community Development Program.
It is designed to attract more visitors and boost tourism in the Sudbury area.
"Our investment is helping strengthen the foundations for a strong tourism sector in Northern Ontario and will increase attendance and revenues at Science North," said Michael Gravelle, Minister of Northern Development and Mines and chair of the NOHFC.
