Scholarship competition seeking entrants

Export Development Canada (EDC) has launched its 13th annual International Business Scholarships competition, which awards 30 scholarships to business students for the 2013-2014 academic year.

Export Development Canada (EDC) has launched its 13th annual International Business Scholarships competition, which awards 30 scholarships to business students for the 2013-2014 academic year.

Scholarships are worth $4,000 and are designed to “develop the next generation of globally minded business leaders.” Since its inception in 2000, scholarships have been awarded to students at schools in all 10 provinces.

While the program’s fundamental objectives remain unchanged, innovations have allowed the scholarships to encourage participation in sustainable business and internationalized work experience. Five of the 30 $4,000 awards are offered to students combining business and sustainable business studies and priority is given to applicants undertaking work abroad related to their international business career.

A further innovation in 2011-2012 was the extension of the program to include college students in accredited bachelor’s degree programs in fields relevant to the scholarships. Students from 95 per cent of eligible colleges took the opportunity to submit applications, which reflected highly varied academic backgrounds and career trajectories.

The scholarships are a key component of EDC’s community investment strategy, which includes international business and trade education targeting Canadian youth.

The deadline to apply is Feb. 4, 2013.
