Sault venture acquires funds for steel cutter

China Steel in Sault Ste. Marie has been granted funds to purchase a state-of-the-art steel-cutting machine, which will create up to five new jobs at the company.

China Steel in Sault Ste. Marie has been granted funds to purchase a state-of-the-art steel-cutting machine, which will create up to five new jobs at the company.

“In order to stay in business you have to be diversified and keep up with technology, and the province's support will help us keep our competitive edge and create more local jobs in the community,” company president Fred China said in a news release.

The company received $202,750 from the Enterprise North Job Creation Program under the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corp. (NOHFC), which provides support for Northern Ontario businesses with the goal of job creation and prosperity in the North.

The money will go towards the purchase of a 90KSI Jet Edge X-Stream powered waterjet cutting machine that is capable of cutting virtually any material. The machine will allow the company to compete for work that requires cut-to-size orders.

“The province's funding is helping this local company enhance its efficeinceis and productivity by allowing it to purchase a state-of-the-art machine that can cut through thicker steel plates, alloys and fibres for the mining and defence industries, which will help protect existing jobs, as well as create more good-quality jobs in Sault Ste. Marie,” Sault MPP David Orazietti said in the release.
