The Sault Ste. Marie EconomicDevelopment Corp. and Gangplank Sault are launching a new networking exchange for entrepreneurs to meet like-minded people and share experiences.

The Sault Ste. Marie EconomicDevelopment Corp. and Gangplank Sault are launching a new networking exchange for entrepreneurs to meet like-minded people and share experiences.

The Sault Community Entrepreneur Network Exchange (SCENE) will meet for the first time next week. Those interested can visit http://bit.ly/scene-launch to register. Only 30 spots are available.

At the gathering, attendees will have a chance to meet other creative, entrepreneurial people; discover talents and share ideas to move their business/career/community by participating in group exercises; and learn more about the SCENE and Gangplank Sault and how people can get involved.

SCENE’s goal is to help people with their entrepreneurial pursuits through informal gathering and an online information-based system. The network aims to increase entrepreneurial education, reduce social and economic barriers in business startup, and provide information on support programs for entrepreneurs.

“We found that a lack of a forum of support was keeping some (entrepreneurs) from taking the next step and entering the small business sector,” said Zoltan Virag, the EDC’s business development advisor. “The SCENE addresses this deficit and, ultimately, it will help create and retain jobs in the Sault area.”

The SCENE was identified as a priority project in the EDC’s strategic plan and has been supported by city council with $10,000 in funding.
