The Passport to Unity multicultural festival will expand in Sault Ste. Marie thanks to provincial funding.

The Sault Community Career Centre, which has hosted the festival since 2006, received $75,000 from the Ontario Trillium Foundation. The festival celebrates multiculturalism in the city, attracting 4,000 visitors annually, and organizers want it to become a week-long, self-sustaining festival.

“The province is providing support for the Passport to Unity multicultural event because it provides an opportunity for local residents to learn about and celebrate cultural diversity,” Sault MPP David Orazietti said in a news release. “The multicultural festival is becoming a premier tourism destination in the region, which continues to attract thousands of people to our community and is a welcome boost to the economy.”

The Sault Community Career Centre is a not-for-profit organization that focuses on creating a welcoming community, supporting employers in meeting their human resource and staffing needs, as well as providing settlement services to all newcomers.
