The City of Sault Ste. Marie reports the value of November building permits recorded so far has increased from 2008.
The total value of permits issued by the city jumped to $25.7 million during the month of November compared to the $8.28 million recorded during the same period in 2008.
Overall, through 11 months of 2009, the city's building department said the total permits recorded are valued at more than $121.5 million, about a $10 million improvement over the previous year.
This year residential construction values for new homes tailed off dramatically from 2008 by more than $12 million. Only $29.2 million was recorded.
But there was an autumn surge with 12 permits issued for new homes in November worth more than $12 million.
The commercial, industrial and institutional sectors have carried the year in the Sault with more than $92.3 million posted for the year to date. Only $69.8 million worth of permits were issued up to the end of November last year.
