A Sault Ste. Marie construction company is being celebrated for its safety record by the Ontario General Contractors Association (OGCA).
Mike Moore & Sons Construction Ltd. has been bestowed the 2011 Doug Chalmers Award for Safety, which is awarded to an individual, group, member company, or association that has made significant contributions to the advancement of occupational health and safety in the construction industry.
The company, which was founded in 1989, offers services in the areas of construction management, design build, general contracting, concrete, and equity services. Its safety record recently reached a total of 675,325 man hours with zero lost time.
Highlights of its safety program include mandatory employee training in various safety programs, monthly safety meetings with all senior management, safety reps and invited employees, weekly site safety inspections and monthly inspections by upper management, and employee safety surveys.
The Doug Chalmers Award for Safety was named for Doug Chalmers, who founded Doug Chalmers Construction Ltd. more than 35 years ago. Chalmers has served on several safety and construction boards and committees, and currently serves as a director on the Council of Ontario Construction Associations.
Mike Moore & Sons Construction Ltd. will receive its award at a ceremony on Oct. 15.
