Sault chamber seeks award nominees

The call is out for nominations for the Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce Business Awards and the 2011 Athena Award. This year, the chamber introduces two new awards.

The call is out for nominations for the Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce Business Awards and the 2011 Athena Award.

This year, the chamber introduces two new awards. The Diversity Award recognizes a business or organization that “embraces, celebrates and applies holistic inclusion and participation of a diverse people making the workplace a better environment in which to work, and the community a better place in which to live, work and raise a family.

The Young Entrepreneur or Business of the Year acknowledges a young entrepreneur, aged 18 to 39, who “demonstrates an innovative or creative approach to creating, marketing and promoting his/her business in addition to maintaining a positive public image and contributing to community activities.”

Seven additional awards will be presented, including those rewarding business development, customer service, marketing, safe work, environmentalism and best practices.

The Athena Award is presented to an individual “who is recognized for professional excellence, for providing valuable service to their community and for actively assisting women in attainment oft heir professional goals and leadership skills.”

The deadline for nominations is July 5. Winners will be announced at the chamber's annual general meeting and business awards dinner in October.
