The runway condition reporting system at the Sault Ste. Marie Airport is being replaced thanks to some federal government funding.
The system provides timely, accurate and precise wireless reporting and recording of runway conditions. The airport is receiving $29,602 through the Airports Capital Assistance Program for the upgrades.
That funding is in addition to $622,320 announced earlier this year for the installation of an aircraft radio control of airfield lighting system and for the rehabilitation of the airside electrical equipment.
“This equipment will enhance safety through improved analysis and communication of existing surface conditions between the airport and Nav Canada,” Terry Bos, CEO of the Sault Ste. Marie Airport Development Corp., said in a news release.
