The Sault Ste. Marie Airport has received $475,000 from the federal government to go towards business development.

Funding will be used to extend water, sewage, and electrical services at the Sault Ste. Marie Airport Development Corp.'s industrial park, so the airport can focus on the growth of the aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul industry, a priority outlined in the corporation's business plan.

“Thanks to the federal government's support, we will be able to accommodate our clients' expanding operational needs,” corporation chair Jerry Dolcetti said in a news release. “In turn, our clients' ability to provide a range of services to aircraft will help us in attracting global airline companies to Sault Ste. Marie, a real plus for the entire region.”

The funding announcement was made in conjunction with Small Business Week, which is observed from Oct. 16-22, and aims to celebrate the contributions and achievements of entrepreneurs across the country.
