A groundbreaking ceremony in Cochrane was held recently for Detour Gold's regional office. The one-storey structure is expected to be about 10,000 square feet and is located on Western Avenue.
Northern Development, Mines and Forestry Minister Michael Gravelle, and Attorney General and Minister of Aboriginal Affairs Chris Bentley attended the event along with Detour Gold CEO Gerald Panneton, Cochrane Mayor Peter Politis and members of the First Nations community.
Construction is expected to begin in September.
Detour Gold has invested $1.3 billion in the region to bring the Detour Mine into production by next year. It will be Canada's largest gold mining operation.
