North Bay's Redpath has won a major mine development and construction contract at Mount Lyell, Tasmania.
The mining contractor's subsidiary, Redpath Australia, will carry out the three-year contract. It was awarded by Copper Mines of Tasmania, a subsidiary of Bedanta. Work began last October and will include 9,900 metres of decline and level development and 8.1 million tonnes of ore production. It will create 200 local jobs.
“Together with earlier contracts, more recent significant awards such as Golden Grove in Western Australia and Mount Lyell has helped to further secure our presence in Australia in a relatively short time,” Redpath Australia's CEO Gordon Shannon said in a January 18 news release. “It is the result of great effort from all involved in identifying, assessing, tendering, winning, recruiting and mobilizing.”
