The province is investing $6.2 million in Sault Ste. Marie's design and construction of a new community centre.

Sault MPP David Orazietti announced Dec. 20 that the West End Community Centre will house two indoor turf-covered soccer fields and a new library.

EPOH are the designers, and George Stone and Sons are the builders.

City officials hope the new venue will be a drawing card to help land more events in the Sault's growing convention and sports tourism sector.

The $11.3-million project is expected to create 117 construction jobs and 27 facility jobs.

The province's money is coming from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund and the Ministry of Infrastructure's Invest in Ontario program.
