Courtesy of the Northern Industrial Electricity Rate program, a number of major power users received energy rebates of two cents per kilowatt-hour to manage power costs during the 2010-2011 fiscal year.

The government handed out $20 million cheques to Vale Canada in Sudbury and Xstrata Canada, the latter for both their Sudbury and Timmins operations.

Tembec General Partnership got $7.9 million for its Kapuskasing newsprint mill, while AbitibiBowater received $6.1 million for its Fort Frances and Iroquois Falls plants.

Domtar received $2.1 million for its Dryden and Espanola operations. North American Palladium landed $1.9 million for its Lac des Iles mine, north of Thunder Bay. Georgia Pacific North Woods LP received $1.6 million for its Englehart strand board plant operations, while Ainsworth Lumber in Barwick of the Rainy River district of northwestern Ontario, received $1 million.
