The provincial government is delivering money to communities on the north shore of Lake Superior and northeastern Ontario.
White River is receiving $663,840 for renovations to its community recreation centre with new seating, lighting, a scoreboard and change room.
The Northeast Superior Forest Community Corporation will also receive $50,000 to explore opportunities for the region in commercial blueberry cultivation.
The Township of Red Rock is receiving $5,000 through the province's Northern Communities Investment Readiness Program. It will be used to study the designs, costs and impacts of improving waterfront facilities to accommodate cruise and cargo ships. The study will lead to the development of a strategy to attract more waterfront investment.
The Township of Chapleau is getting $10,000 to identify and develop mineral, forestry and energy biomass investment opportunities.
Road construction work near Thunder Bay also continues as a tender call has been issued for a contract on planned work for 13 kilometres of Highway 11/17, intersection improvements, completion of two new passing lanes and pavement resurfacing of the Kaministiquia River Bridge on Highway 130.
Work is scheduled for completion later this year.
