Province accepting applications for municipal infrastructure funding

The province is now accepting applications for funding towards municipal road, bridge, water and wastewater projects under the Municipal Infrastructure Strategy.

The province is now accepting applications for funding towards municipal road, bridge, water and wastewater projects under the Municipal Infrastructure Strategy.

A total of $51 million is available for municipalities to undertake critical infrastructure projects the province hopes will strengthen local economies and create jobs.

To be eligible, municipalities must apply online and demonstrate how projects fit with a comprehensive asset management plan.

“In Ontario, municipalities own and operate more infrastructure than any other order of government,” Russ Powers, president of the Association of Municipalities of Ontario, said in a news release. “Today's announcement will help to ensure municipal governments can continue to make critical repairs to roads, bridges and water systems while beginning to plan so we can make appropriate use of future funding.”

The deadline to apply for funding is Jan. 9, 2013.
