Porter posts record May numbers

Porter Airlines broke several records through the month of May, posting increases in passenger numbers, available seat miles, and revenue passenger miles, marking the highest numbers in the airline's history.

More than 182,000 passengers travelled in May, compared to 130,000 during the same period in 2010. In addition, Porter's load factor—the ratio of an aircraft's lift to its weight—was 59.5 per cent, up 10.5 points from 49 per cent in 2010. It was the best-ever May result for the airline.

“The May numbers are an indication that we are solidifying and building the business on all fronts,” Robert Deluce, president and CEO of Porter Airlines, said in a news release. “Even with significant new capacity and cities being added to the network, Porter is seeing unprecedented results.”

In May, Sault Ste. Marie was added to the list of destinations serviced by the airline, and positive response has resulted in a third daily flight being added to the schedule starting June 27.

Porter is based out of Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport, and has scheduled flights to Ottawa, Montreal, Thunder Bay, Windsor, Halifax, Boston, Chicago and New York.
