Starting on September 6, Porter Airlines will offer a third daily flight to Toronto out of the Greater Sudbury Airport.

That will bring the number of return flights to three: one leaves Sudbury at 6:05 a.m., one leaves at 2 p.m., and one leaves at 7 p.m., landing at Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport.

“One of the Greater Sudbury Airport’s largest obstacles has been to mitigate vehicular travel on Highway 69 in favour of air travel to Toronto’s Downtown core,” Tara Glabb, director of business development for the Greater Sudbury Airport, said in a news release. The addition of this third flight will help us begin to tackle this challenge head-on.”

Porter president Robert Deluce said the company has invested in Sudbury as a destination, and has watched it grow along with Porter.

“Competitive air service is important for the community and we look forward to welcoming even more people aboard,” he said in the release.

Porter added a third flight to its Sault Ste. Marie schedule earlier this spring, posting increases in passenger numbers, available seat miles, and revenue passenger miles, marking the highest numbers in the airline's history.
