Ontario Power Generation has issued a call to potential suppliers of wood-based biomass fuel to fill the needs of the Atikokan Generating Station.
In a March 18 release, OPG said it will continue to use fuel costs, plant modifications and handling facilities to develop their business case. The process is being called a Request for Indicative Prices.
"Supply and price of fuel will be an important consideration in making our final decision in the coming months," said Chris Young, vice-president of Thermal Generation Development.
The Atikokan Generation Station in northwestern Ontario is the first former coal unit being repowered to burn biomass.
