The Ontario Power Authority (OPA) will begin formal consultations to update the province's Integrated Power System Plan (IPSP) with a web-enabled teleconference on May 17.
The IPSP, which was first devised in 2007 and is updated every three years, is a 20-year blueprint that provides direction on how to meet the province's electricity needs. The updated 2011 version of the plan will focus on the investments that are needed in conservation, generation and transmission to meet those needs.
“The development of a long-term plan is central to ensuring a reliable, sustainable and cost-effective electricity system for the future of Ontario,” an OPA news release states.
The upcoming web conference will give stakeholders an opportunity to provide input into the plan. The sessions will provide an introduction to the IPSP process and an overview of the IPSP Planning and Consultation document, which will be available on the OPA website prior to the session.
Information on future sessions will be posted to the OPA website, and additional sessions will be held with First Nations and Metis communities.
The consultation sessions follow the release of the province's Long-Term Energy Plan, which sets out the province's electricity requirements until 2030, and the Supply Mix Directive, which outlines the targets that must be met in the IPSP by the OPA.
Funding is available from the OPA for eligible stakeholders who wish to participate in the consultation process.
