Northern College will officially lift the veil from its Centre of Excellence for Trades and Technology with a grand opening at its Porcupine campus in Timmins on Oct. 27.

A free community barbecue will precede the 1 p.m. ribbon cutting, which will be followed by tours of the new facility.

A fundraising dinner whose proceeds will support the Centre will follow at 6 p.m., with Restaurant Makeover's Igor Shamraychuk slated as a guest speaker.

The Centre has 33,000 square feet of new and renovated space, with a 12,000-square-foot simulated industrial trades shop. It also features new lecture theatres, industrial science labs, student commons areas, as well as classrooms and labs geared with Smart Technology.

It also includes a state-of-the-art Telepresence Studio, where next-generation video equipment will be used to deliver trades training to Northern College's Moosonee campus.
