A sustainable energy workshop held by the NORDIK Institute in Sault Ste. Marie will show organizations the basics on how to start a solar community project.

Part of Soo Sustainable Green Days, a seven-day event focusing on renewable energy and building a sustainable community, the hands-on workshop will be hosted by the Ontario Sustainable Energy Association (OSEA).

The Community Power Roadmap to Success workshop is specifically designed for community-based organizations—environmental clubs, ethno-cultural associations, and student unions—and institutional groups—municipalities, hospitals, schools, churches—to collaborate on the development of solar power projects.

It will be led by Harry French, who has worked across Canada in various provinces planning, designing and implementing actions for the development of natural and recreational park systems. His work focused on connecting people to ensure sustainable use of environmental resources.

“After this event is finished, we would like to see communities join a local network to ensure projects are completed from start to finish,” said workshop organizer Danny Goedhard.

Once organizations have the tools and confidence necessary to initiate a community project, a network will be available to ensure each participant can have access to resources and expertise in the future.
