The Sudbury-based Northern Centre for Advanced Technology Inc. (NORCAT) has joined the Ontario Network of Excellence (ONE), landing $1.8 million from the province to support research efforts throughout the region.

As part of the Northern Technology Alliance, NORCAT will work with the Sault Ste. Marie Innovation Centre, the Northwestern Ontario Innovation Centre in Thunder Bay, and other partners in North Bay.

Fourteen regional innovation centres make up ONE, whose members provide entrepreneurs with access to a broad range of experts, including researchers, academics, businesses, government and investors who can help sell an idea and grow a business worldwide.

"ONE links research and business know-how across every Ontario community, so anyone, anywhere can get the help they need to turn great ideas into commercial enterprises," said Darryl Lake, CEO of NORCAT, in a release.

"We're proud to be working with colleagues across the North to help foster innovation in our own backyard, and create the jobs of tomorrow."
